Malcolm Johnson Jr: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Malcolm Johnson Jr is uncommitted but is choosing between Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and LSU. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Malcolm Johnson Jr is a big play waiting to happen. He has above average height for a receiver and an excellent build for the position. He is well put together and has the strength to take on physical defenders. Johnson has excellent speed and can run past most defenders on the football field. He displays good acceleration and gets in and out of his breaks quickly, creating good separation. He uses his hands to catch the ball and does a good job of catching the ball cleanly. He has the vertical leap and the high pointing ability to win in jump ball situations.

Johnson has the speed and strength to make the defense pay once he has the football. One misstep from the defender results in a big gain or score for Johnson who is too fast and explosive to make up ground against, and too strong to tackle if you do not hit him squarely. He will need to work on his elusiveness some to make defenders miss in smaller areas at the next level. In high school he is able to overwhelm his competition athletically and will need to adjust to the better athletes he will be taking on in college. Overall, Johnson has the speed and hands needed to be a big play threat in college. Malcolm Johnson Jr is an explosive receiver who will be a playmaker at the upper power five level in college.
