Tyleik Williams: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape on Tyleik Williams to give you a scouting report based on his film.

Tyleik Williams has adequate size and length for a defensive tackle prospect to go along with a wide, sturdy, and stocky frame. Williams looks and plays like a wrecking ball in the interior of the defensive line and is much more mobile than one would expect. His very thick lower half allows him to hold the point of attack and often overpower lesser players. His quickness is very good for his size and build, and Williams is a natural athlete. His get off and quick use of a swim move allow him to shoot through gaps and make plays in the opposing backfield frequently. Too often Williams plays high and this is an area he will need to improve in order to have success at the next level.

He demonstrates position versatility as he lines up at nose, defensive tackle, defensive end, and even as a stand up rusher for his team. Williams shows the ability to make plays and be disruptive from each of these positions, a very attractive trait in a defensive line prospect. He routinely gets his hands on the ball in the passing game and shows off his quickness and explosive ability on special teams as well. Williams does understand hand usage, but lacks an array of pass rush moves at this point in his career. Tyleik Williams is a very good defensive line prospect who will likely play as a defensive tackle, or possibly a 3-4 defensive end, and develop into a multi-year starter for an upper echelon power five program.
