Andrew Jones: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, Andrew Jones committed to Memphis, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Andrew Jones is an athletic linebacker who runs down plays from sideline to sideline. Jones has a great short area explosiveness and can close on ball carriers in a hurry. He combines this with his good sideline to sideline speed and overall fluid athleticism to make plays all over the field. Jones plays downhill and is comfortable attacking the line of scrimmage, he recognizes plays well and beats blockers with his athletic ability. He will need to get better at taking on blockers and disengaging at the next level. Jones arrives at the football with authority, he is a true striker and makes his presence felt on the football field. Jones has decent size but will need to add some weight at the collegiate level to hold up at the line of scrimmage. Jones does not drop in coverage much in his film and will need to do so in college, but he has the athleticism and instincts to become a good player in coverage with coaching. He is an aggressive player who overruns plays at times but has the athletic ability to get back in position to make the play. Andrew Jones is a sideline to sideline linebacker who should become a good three down college linebacker.
