WR Rankings: Jacob Cowing

As we review the WR rankings, players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Jacob Cowing, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:

  • The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
  • Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
  • Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
  • We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

You can view the College Football WR Rankings here.

Arizona wide receiver, Jacob Cowing was explosive the first three years of his college career at UTEP. He made at least 30 catches each season and averaged over 15 yards per catch in each of those three seasons. He accounted for eight 100 yard games in 2021 and will now look to have the same game changing performances at Arizona. Cowing finished the 2021 season with 69 catches for 1,367 yards and 7 touchdowns. He is a big play threat who must be accounted for at all times.

Cowing is a dynamic athlete who creates problems for the defense in coverage and after the catch. He has the speed to blow past defenders and get open downfield, but also has the stop and start quickness to pull away from defenders underneath. As much as the athleticism helps Cowing get open, it’s even more impactful after the catch. He can stop on a dime change directions and get back in gear in the blink of an eye, making it frightening for defenders to have to tackle him in space. Cowing is one of the most explosive receivers in the country and makes big plays happen in a variety of ways.

At a listed 5’11” 170 lbs, Cowing is not a big receiver. He does however, have good leaping ability and the body control to adjust to poorly thrown passes. Cowing is able to adjust to the ball in the air and make difficult catches on balls that would otherwise end up incomplete. His ability to adjust to the ball and make difficult catches saves possessions for the offense.

Jacob Cowing is an explosive receiver who has an excellent athletic profile. He has plenty of speed, agility and burst, making him tough to cover and tackle. Cowing catches the ball well and makes plenty of highlight reel catches. After transferring from UTEP to Arizona, he will look to repeat his success from a year ago on a bigger stage in 2022.
