WR Rankings: Emeka Egbuka

As we review the WR rankings, players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Emeka Egbuka, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:

  • The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
  • Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
  • Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
  • We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

Ohio State wide receiver, Emeka Egbuka flashed some as a true freshman, but has come into his own in 2022. He had to step up immediately in the season-opener when Jaxon Smith-Njigba was injured against Notre Dame and finished the game with nine catches for 90 yards and a touchdown. He has continued his strong play, going over 100 yards receiving in each of the three games since and catching a touchdown in every game this year. Through four games, Egbuka has 26 catches for 442 yards and 5 touchdowns, while also running the ball twice for 30 yards and a touchdown. The second year receiver has become a featured weapon for the Ohio State offense and is on his way to becoming a great receiver.

Egbuka is an excellent all-around athlete. He has a quick first step and good speed downfield showing the ability to stretch the defense. Egbuka also has the quick feet and fluidity to make sudden moves, helping him create separation. As much as his quickness is an asset, he compliments it with the strength to fight off defenders and break tackles. Egbuka has the balance to take contact or make sharp cuts without losing his feet. This complete athletic profile makes him a tough match-up for almost any defender.

The athleticism alone is wonderful, but the 6’1″ 205 lb Egbuka is a complete receiver. He runs clean routes with good balance, setting defenders up and creating space easily. Egbuka has excellent body control and hands, adjusting to the ball then making difficult catches look routine. He is elusive and physical with the ball in his hands, adding yards after the catch regularly. Egbuka does everything a receiver needs to do and he does it all at a high level, making him an invaluable player on the perimeter.

Emeka Egbuka is becoming an elite wide receiver. He is a special athlete who can win with his physical gifts alone, but has also developed his game to make himself a complete player. Egbuka can run the entire route tree effectively, is dangerous after the catch or as a running threat and is a willing blocker for the run game. He has developed quickly and has become one of the better receivers in college football.
