Will Latu: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, Will Latu committed to Washington, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Will Latu is a thick athlete with good athleticism who should be a linebacker at the college level. Latu has a good frame and is already a well built player who is physically imposing at the high school level. He is a rare athlete who is built like an in the box defender but is comfortable in coverage as well. Latu can play zone coverage where he has good instincts and ball skills to make plays against the pass. Latu is also capable of defending tight ends man to man down the field, where his size and strength negate any mismatch the tight ends could have. He is a good athlete with a good blend of speed and strength which he can use as a run defender chasing ball carriers or to get pass blockers and rush the passer. Depending on where his body takes him Latu could play multiple spots on defense. Latu has the athleticism to be a jumbo running back or tight end/H-back at the next level as well but we think he will play defense for the Huskies where his versatility will be a tremendous asset. He needs to become a more sound tackler and work on his technique at the next level but the physical tools are all there. Latu is a rare player who can do many things well on the football field. He will be a power five starter at linebacker or possibly defensive end at the college level.
