Ty Thompson: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Earlier this year, Ty Thompson committed to Oregon, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Ty Thompson has prototypical size for the quarterback position. He has a live arm and throws the ball with little effort. Thompson can make all the throws at every level of the football field. He does a good job of getting his base underneath which allows him to maximize his arm talent. Thompson throws the ball with zip when needed, but demonstrates good touch as well. He is a fairly accurate passer and does a good job of hitting his receivers in stride so they can pick up yards after the catch.

Thompson is above average athletically, but could stand to improve his pocket mobility and awareness. He can pick up yards on the ground but is not a great scrambler. Thompson needs to continue to improve at reading the defense and throwing with anticipation. He relies on his arm talent at times, which is understandable but could get him in trouble at the next level. Ty Thompson has the ability to be a prototypical quarterback and an excellent college player for the Ducks.
