True Freshmen Mountain 2020: November 17 Update

The True Freshmen Mountain is our way of tracking the impact college football’s newcomers are having. It’s like the game, King of the Mountain, the player on the top is King, and everyone else is doing their best to knock him off the peak. We will update the list every week adding in the performances from that week. The mountain is based on a players performance for the season. We are judging players based on their production, the level of competition they performed against and the eye test. To see last week’s true freshmen mountain click here.

King Of The Mountain

Malachi Moore – Alabama

Stats: 28 Tak 3 TFL 6 PBU 2 Int 1 FF 1 FR 1 TD

Alabama’s game this weekend was postponed, but Moore has done enough to keep his spot at the top of the mountain.

Top Challengers

Myles Murphy – Clemson

Season Stats: 27 tackles 8.5 TFL 3.5 Sacks 2 fumble forced, 1 QB Hurry

Clemson had a bye this week so Murphy did not have a chance to add to his impressive season. No one did enough to warrant jumping Murphy on the mountain and he keeps his spot.

Tank BigsbyAuburn

Stats: 89 car 503 yds 5 TD / 11 rec 84 yds / 13 KR 306 yds

Auburn’s game was also postponed, Bigsby maintained his spot on the mountain on the strength of his performance so far this season.

Closing In On The Top Group

DJ Uiagalelei – Clemson

Stats: 71/104 883 yds 4 TD 0 Int / 27 car 59 yds 4 TD

Lke Murphy, Uiagalelei was also off this past weekend because Clemson had a bye week. He stayed put on the mountain.

Jordan Addison – Pittsburgh

Stats: 52 rec 611 yds 3 TD / 7 Car 53 yds / 2 PR 15 yds / 2 KR 39 yds

Addison and Pittsburgh were also off due to their game with Georgia Tech being postponed. Addison also stayed put in his spot on the mountain.

Peter Skoronski – Northwestern

Stats: 4 starts at Left Tackle

Skoronski was excellent again this weekend in Northwestern’s 27 – 20 win over Purdue. He was excellent in pass protection, helping keep Peyton Ramsey from being sacked in the game. Skoronski protected Ramsey’s blindside well during the game and continued his strong first season for the Wildcats.

On The Slope

Khari Coleman – TCU

Stats: 20 Tak 9.5 TFL 2 Sacks 2 QB Hurries

Coleman has been coming on for a few weeks, making 7.5 tackles for loss over the last 4 games. He leads the team in tackles for loss and had another good game on Saturday against West Virginia, recording 3 tackles with 2 tackles for loss. Coleman has emerged as a disruptive defensive end for the Horned Frogs and should continue to be an impact defender for TCU.

Deuce VaughnKansas State

Stats: 87 car 371 yds 4 TD / 16 rec 366 yds 1 TD

Kansas State also had a bye last weekend. Vaughn was passed by a couple of players who have been coming on recently, but remains on the mountain.

Jalen Berger – Wisconsin

Stats: 15 car 87 yards 1 TD / 2 rec 13 yards

Berger made his season debut for Wisconsin against Michigan and showed the skills that have Badgers’ fans excited about him. He showed good burst, quickness and balance running for 87 yards and a touchdown on just 15 carries against Michigan this weekend. Berger looked like he could be the next big time running back at Wisconsin as he continues to develop his skills.

The true freshmen mountain saw a lot less activity this past weekend with several games being postponed and several of the top true freshmen having a bye week. Hopefully, next weekend has fewer issues and the games get played so we have more to digest. We will revisit the true freshman mountain weekly to update the rankings as the season moves forward.
