Trequon Fegans: Scouting Report
Size
Trequon Fegans has good height at the cornerback position. He also has the good length and a frame to continue to add weight. Fegans has filled out well over the course of his high school career and will have close to prototypical size during his college career. Size is definitely a strength and will help him match-up physically with bigger receivers on the outside.
Athleticism
Fegans is a good athlete who moves well at his size. He has good long speed and will be able to cover downfield. Fegans changes directions well and has the quick feet needed for the position. He has excellent burst, showing the ability to close on the ball in a hurry. He will need to maintain his quickness and explosion as he fills out moving forward, but Fegans has good athleticism for cornerback.
Hips/Technique
Fegans has shown good technique in press man coverage. He has the length to disrupt receivers at the line of scrimmage and the hips to turn and run with them. Fegans can get better with his footwork in and out of his backpedal, but makes up any ground he gives up there with his good closing speed.
Ball Skills
Fegans has good ball skills, displaying the ability to find the football quickly and the fast hands to make a play on it. His height, length and strong leaping ability are assets in jump-ball situations where he has good timing and wins regularly. Fegans has good hands and converts plenty of interceptions, plus he has the savvy and return ability to take them back for scores.
Physicality/Tackling
Fegans thrives playing physically with receivers at the line of scrimmage. He uses his length to knock receivers off their patterns and disrupt the timing of the route. He is a willing tackler against the run, but needs to wrap up more consistently. Fegans’ physicality is a key part of his game and should help him be a complete defender at the next level.
Projection
Trequon Fegans is a tall and physical cornerback who will be a tough match-up for receivers on the outside. He also has the athletic ability and coverage skills to be a complete corner. With a good set of tools to succeed at the next level, Fegans will develop into an excellent cornerback who is a starter on an upper echelon power five team.
