Toriano Pride: Scouting Report
Size
Toriano Pride has average height for a college cornerback. He has a slighter build, but will add some weight as he matures. Pride is big enough to play on the outside but could thrive in the slot guarding smaller, shiftier receivers.
Athleticism
Pride has excellent athleticism that translates well on the football field. He is fast and has the speed to run with receivers on deep routes or across the field. Pride is quick when changing directions, showing little wasted motion when he transitions. He also shows the short area burst to get back up to speed in a hurry.
Hips/Technique
Pride is very patient in coverage, trusting his instincts and ability to make the play. He is effective playing off the ball or in tighter coverage, displaying the ability to mirror receivers. Pride has great hips and can get out of his stance efficiently and turn and run with receivers. His quick feet allow him to erase any missteps in coverage and stick with the receiver.
Ball Skills
Pride plays both ways in high school and displays solid ball skills. He has quick hands and is able to react quickly and effectively to the football. Pride plays through the receivers hands and is able to disrupt plays even when the receiver is in good position to secure the catch. He has the leaping ability and body control to adjust to the ball and make the play.
Physicality/Tackling
Pride shows a good feel for plays developing in front of him and closes on the ball carrier in a hurry. He uses his speed and athleticism to beat blockers to the spot and make the play. Pride will need to be more physical and a more technically sound tackler in college as the blockers and ball carriers become more athletic.
Projection
Toriano Pride is an excellent athlete who is difficult for receivers to shake free from. He is comfortable in multiple coverage schemes and has the ball skills to make the offense regret testing him. Pride is a high end athlete who will develop into a starter for an upper echelon power five team.
