Tanner Bailey: Scouting Report
Size
Tanner Bailey has average height at the quarterback position. He is not particularly big either and his build in on the slighter side. He has some time to grow, but Bailey’s size is not prototypical for a quarterback. He will have to get stronger as he matures to handle the physical toll of the college game.
Release/Mechanics
Bailey has good feet and does a good job of driving the ball with his lower half when he throws. His has little wasted motion in his drop backs and resets well when on the move. He has an efficient release that allows him to quickly and accurately get rid of the football, even with defenders bearing down on him.
Arm
Bailey has excellent accuracy and touch when he throws the football. His ball placement allows his receivers the best opportunity to make the play. He also has the ability to throw the ball with zip on out patterns and throws over the middle of the field. He has above average arm strength and can stretch the field as well, throwing a good deep ball with touch.
Mobility
Bailey is not a major threat to scramble, but he is quick in and around the pocket. He does a good job of making subtle movements to avoid pressure and can evade the rush and escape the pocket when it collapses. Bailey runs to buy time to throw, but has some quickness and can pick up a first down in a pinch.
Intangibles
Bailey plays the position like a much more experienced player. He does a good job of making quick reads and anticipating where the openings in the defense will be and where the pressure will come from. He throws the ball on time and to the right spot, giving his team the best chance to succeed on most plays.
Projection
Tanner Bailey is an advanced quarterback prospect who reads the defense well and is accurate with the football. He has the arm, footwork and mechanics to quickly develop into a player who could start for an upper echelon power five team.
