Talyn Shettron: Scouting Report
Size
Talyn Shettron has excellent height and length at the receiver position. He has a good frame that will continue to add strength as he matures. Shettron plays with good strength now and will only get stronger as he fills out. His size and build will help create mismatches against defensive backs in college.
Athleticism
Shettron shows the ability to get behind the defense downfield with good long speed. He has above average burst and can accelerate past defensive backs, especially with hesitation moves. He does need to continue to work on his lateral quickness to help him change directions more efficiently. Overall, Shettron has the athleticism to be a big play threat down the field.
Route Running
Shettron has the speed to get past the defense and understands how to get on top of the corner quickly. He creates separation with his speed, but will need to improve on breaking routes, where he needs to create separation immediately out of his breaks. Shettron has a good feel for positioning himself when running routes and uses his size well to create a throwing lane for his quarterback.
Ball Skills
Shettron tracks the ball well downfield and has excellent timing to win in jump-ball situations. He has a huge catch radius to go with good body control and positions himself well to win in contested situations. Shettron has good hands but does have a tendency to let the ball get into his body on easier catches. Nonetheless, he is a reliable target who wins in 50/50 situations more often than not.
Run After Catch
Shettron’s speed and burst make him effective picking up yardage after the catch. He has the strength to run through arm tackles and the speed to pull away from help defenders. Shettron could improve his elusiveness to help add to his run after catch ability, but he gets the job done with his combination of speed and power.
Projection
Talyn Shettron is a physically impressive receiver prospect who creates mismatches on the perimeter. He is a tough cover who can make big plays even when the defense has the play defended well. Shettron has the physical ability and ball skills to develop into a starter for an upper echelon power five program.
