RB Rankings: Zach Evans
Updated: 01/19/2022
With the season underway players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Zach Evans, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:
- The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
- Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
- Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
- We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

Zach Evans had a good start to his career at TCU. He began to make his mark toward the end of his freshman season, running for 100 yards in two of his last three games. He picked up right where he left off in 2021. Evans played a key role in the week 2 win over Cal. He continued to perform well but did not play after the West Virginia game. In six games Evans carried the ball 92 times for 648 yards and 5 touchdowns to go with 10 catches for 130 yards and a touchdown receiving. The star running back entered the transfer portal and will ply his craft at Mississippi in 2022.
Evans is a powerful runner. He is well built 5’11” and 212 lbs and is strong in his lower half, generating good power when he runs the ball. Evans does a good job of finding his lane and getting downhill, so he can run behind his pads with good pop. He does not hesitate to take the impact to the defender, allowing him to run through tackles and move the pile. He is a tough tackle one on one for most defenders because he is a load to bring down and has the feet to make a defender miss and break away for a big gain.
Evans has excellent feet, cutting quickly and showing the lateral agility to leave defenders grasping at the air. He has good acceleration and speed that helps him to pull away once he breaks a tackle or evades a tackler. Evans is light on his feet and makes quick changes in direction and speed that make it tough for defenders to get a clean shot on him. He is a violent runner, but has the ability to make nimble plays that surprise opponents and viewers alike.
Evans has already proven he can be a dangerous receiver out of the backfield, catching the ball comfortably and getting big yards after the catch. He has some breakaway speed and can hit the home-run but is very effective getting chunk plays consecutively. Evans gets down hill and picks up yardage in chunks, while also beating down the defense. He has rare ability and is already one of the best running backs in the country.
