RB Rankings: TreVeyon Henderson
With the season underway players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into TreVeyon Henderson, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:
- The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
- Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
- Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
- We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

Ohio State running back, TreVeyon Henderson wasted no time making an impact for the Buckeyes. He only touched the ball three times on offense in the season opener against Minnesota, but turned the third touch into a 70 yards touchdown catch. His role grew in the loss against Oregon, after which he made his first start against Tulsa and set an Ohio State freshman rushing record with 277 yards on the ground. Henderson took over as the starting running back for Ohio State and was explosive, running for 1,255 yards and 15 touchdowns on 184 carries while also catching 27 passes for 312 yards and 4 touchdowns. He proved to be a big play threat as a true freshman and will only get better as he progresses.
Henderson is an explosive running back, who has elite burst. He is able to accelerate in the blink of an eye, causing defenders to rethink their pursuit angles. Henderson is able to gear down and regain speed just as quickly as he did at the start of the run. It’s difficult to keep Henderson contained because he is through the hole before the defense is able to get in position to stop him. Once at the second level, Henderson has the long speed to score from anywhere and the subtle moves to evade tacklers without losing much speed.
Henderson is a home-run threat, but he is also a good runner between the tackles. He is a powerful runner who finishes runs by delivering contact to the defender. Henderson is willing to get his pads low and take on contact, but also has the ability to spin out of tackles and fight for extra yardage. He makes quick cuts in tight spaces to find the angle to pick up extra yardage and will deliver a good stiff arm to keep would-be tacklers at bay. Henderson is able to chew up yardage in chunks even when the big play is not available.
Usually young running backs struggle with blocking responsibilities, but Henderson is very good at recognizing where he is needed and is a solid blocker when picking up blitzes. He is also dangerous as a receiver out of the backfield, showing his ability on swing passes and screens. Henderson is truly a do-it-all back who can change the game on any play. He is still scratching the surface of his immense potential and will be one of the best running backs in college football throughout his career.
