RB Rankings: Sean Tucker

Updated: 01/19/2022

With the season underway players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Sean Tucker, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:

  • The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
  • Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
  • Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
  • We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

Syracuse, running back, Sean Tucker flashed his talent as a true freshman in 2020 and took the next step in 2021. He was the focal point of the Syracuse offense and has rushed for over 100 yards in 9 of 12 games this year. Tucker rushed for 1,496 yards and 12 touchdowns on 246 carries while also catching 20 passes for 255 yards and 2 touchdowns. He has been a star for the Orange carrying the offense and dominating while doing it.

Tucker runs with excellent patience and vision. He doesn’t panic in the backfield, but instead allows the play to develop and finds the right hole to hit. Tucker rarely misses the hole, he has an innate ability to find cut back lanes and open space against any defense. Defending Tucker is an exercise in gap discipline, because he will regularly find the one gap that no one is in and exploit it. His vision and ability to allow plays to develop make Tucker a tough back to keep contained, but he also does plenty of extra damage once he finds his running lanes.

Tucker has good burst and power that he uses to take advantage of those running lanes and then get yards after contact at the second level. He is quick through the hole and runs with good power to break through arm tackles and get to the second level. Tucker’s powerful running style makes him tough to bring down in the secondary. He has some wiggle to keep defenders off balance and runs with force to power past or through defenders in the secondary. He delivers the blow to the defender more than he takes a hit and wears down tacklers over the course of the game.

Sean Tucker is a complete back who has proven to be a reliable receiver out of the backfield. He has some speed to make big plays and can be a consistent force that moves the chains throughout the game. Tucker is the best player on Syracuse’s offense and even though the defense knows he will be featured, he is still able to turn in strong performances on a weekly basis. He has become one of the best and most reliable backs in college football.
