RB Rankings: Braelon Allen

Updated: 01/19/2022

With the season underway players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Braelon Allen, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:

  • The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
  • Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
  • Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
  • We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

Wisconsin, running back, Braelon Allen saw his playing time increase as the season progressed and did not disappoint with the added touches. He ran for over 100 yards in seven of eight games to finish the year, including 228 yard performance against Nebraska. For the season, Allen has rushed for 1,268 yards and 12 touchdowns on 186 carries while also catching 8 passes for 39 yards. The true freshman was an impact player for Wisconsin and looks to be the next great back for the program.

Allen is a powerful runner at 6’2″ 238 lbs. He runs with violence, breaking through arm tackles and driving the pile for extra yardage after contact. He delivers contact to defenders and is an intimidating sight for defensive backs trying to make the tackle at the second level. Allen has the burst and size to generate enough power to fight off would be tacklers to gain extra yards. He wears down the defense over the course of a game and defenders miss tackles later in the game that they may have made earlier.

Allen is a big running back who plays with power, but he actually has quick feet to accompany that power as well. He is able to stretch the play out, pick a hole and accelerate through the hole. Allen has the balance and explosiveness to start and stop abruptly making him a threat to hesitate and then bounce the run around the outside on any play. Once in the open field he is a threat to break a long run with the speed to finish with a score from distance. Allen’s power and violent running style is his calling card, but his quick feet and burst make him that much more lethal as a runner.

Braelon Allen is a powerful runner who will beat the defense up over the course of the game. He also has the burst and feet to make defenders miss and break a big play. Allen performed well as a true freshman and is clearly the future of the running back position at Wisconsin. He has some work to do as a receiver out of the backfield and will get better with experience, but he is already shining as the Badgers’ lead back. Allen has next in a long line of great Wisconsin running backs.
