QB Rankings: Jaxson Dart

With the season underway players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Jaxson Dart, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:

  • The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
  • Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
  • Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
  • We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

New Mississippi quarterback, Jaxson Dart enrolled at USC in 2021 as a top QB recruit. He started the year as a reserve, but helped lead the Trojans to a comeback win against Washington State. Dart was injured during that game and would miss the next four weeks, but returned to play the final five games of the season. There were some up and downs as can be expected from a true freshman quarterback, but showed plenty of promise. He completed 62 percent of his passes at 7.2 yards per attempt with 9 touchdowns against 5 interceptions in six games at USC. With a coaching change at USC and a plethora of roster turnover, Dart decided to transfer from USC to Mississippi, where he will look to build on his promising true freshman season.

Dart has impressive arm strength, showing the ability to push the ball downfield while taking hits and deliver passes with velocity in tight windows. He is able to throw a strong accurate pass with traffic around his feet and when he is off-platform. Dart’s ability to deliver the ball downfield even when off balance is exciting to watch, but a challenge to defend. Even when he is on the move he is able to deliver passes into traffic with enough steam to get to the receiver. Dart has an excellent arm, making the extraordinary plays common place.

Having a great arm is an advantage, but the confidence Dart plays with elevates his game. He does not hesitate to attempt to make the big play and is not afraid to challenge the defense downfield. This helps Dart make plays in the face of pressure from the defense, allowing him to stay calm and trust his ability to make the play. He is tough in the pocket and will deliver accurate passes while taking shots from the defense, frustrating the defense who thought they had affected the quarterback only to watch the offense move the chains again.

Jaxson Dart has all of the physical talent to be a star quarterback, he has a strong arm, is accurate with his throws and shows good mobility in and around the pocket. He accentuates that talent with the confidence and presence that he plays the game with. Dart took advantage of his opportunities as a true freshman, flashing the ability that will make him one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
