Payton Page: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Payton Page will be announcing his commitment on July 28th and is choosing between Tennessee, North Carolina, and Clemson. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Payton Page is a massive prospect with thick, wide base that makes him difficult to handle. He will need to trim down some but has the frame and muscle to be a force on the interior. Page possesses good quickness for a player his size and above average quickness for the position overall. Despite his size, Page has a natural fluidity for the position. His game is based on power as he relies on his brute force to bull over blockers. There are flashes of some hand usage skills, including a swim move, and Page uses this to disengage blockers quickly. Handling the double team is not an issue at the prep level, as he is double teamed often and manages to beat the blockers to make plays.

Page will need to be more consistent with his pad level as he will not get away with using his raw strength as frequently at the next level. Effort and energy flash on film but he will need to improve his conditioning to avoid wearing down over the course of a collegiate game. Payton Page is an excellent run defender and capable pass rusher that is poised to make an early impact at an upper tier power five school.
