Nick Evers: Scouting Report
Size
Nick Evers has good height for the position. He is still filling out and needs to continue to do that. As he adds muscle he will fill out and get big enough to handle the rigors of the position. Evers has good size and will have no problem making plays from the pocket or withstanding hits at the next level.
Release/Mechanics
Evers has a quick release that has a slightly lower release point, but is efficient and repeatable. He is light on his feet in the pocket and stays on balance, allowing him to deliver strong accurate throws. He resets well when he is forced off his spot in the pocket and is true to his mechanics under duress.
Arm
Evers has good arm strength, showing the ability to make deep throws with pace rather effortlessly. He has the ability to get zip on intermediate throws over the middle or to the sidelines. Evers also has excellent accuracy, placing the ball well so receivers can make the catch on the move and pick up yards after the catch. He throws with velocity or touch depending on the situation and is able to make both types of throws effectively.
Mobility
Evers has quick feet and is adept running the football. He has a good feel for pressure in and around the pocket and is able to maneuver around it efficiently. Evers may not be as explosive a running threat as some of the dual threat quarterbacks around college football, but he has the ability to make plays with his feet in the option game and is a threat to scramble when he escapes the pocket.
Intangibles
Evers appears to process the game quickly and makes quick decisions with the football. He regularly throws on time and to the right receiver, making things easier for the entire offense. Evers shows a willingness to stay in the pocket and make tough throws under pressure. He displays the poise and confidence to make big plays under pressure.
Projection
Nick Evers has all of the tools to become a great college quarterback. He should only get better as he fills out and gains experience. Evers’ talent and poise will help him develop into a high end college quarterback who can be a starter for an upper echelon power five team.
