Alabama Crimson TideRecruit Scouting Reports

Monkell Goodwine: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Monkell Goodwine will be announcing his commitment on August 15th and is between Alabama, Clemson, Arizona State, Kentucky and Texas A&M. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Monkell Goodwine has a good frame, and arms that are longer than his height would indicate. He has a muscular and sturdy build and looks to have room to gain enough weight to play a three technique. Goodwine has an impressive first step and moves quickly in pursuit despite not being the smoothest looking athlete. He plays with very good leverage and a low pad level that allows him to maximize his raw power and explosiveness. A very energetic player who shows tremendous pursuit and activity on film.

Goodwine uses his hands to knock blockers back and then quickly disengage to pursue the ball carrier. He shows the ability to set the edge on film, and also displays a power rush and rip move in pass rush situations. Goodwine will need to add more technique and moves with his hands but looks to be well on his way to doing so. Monkell Goodwine may not have the upside of longer, more athletic prospects, but projects as a multi year starter at strong-side defensive end or defensive tackle at a major power five program.
