Mason Tufaga: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, Mason Tufaga committed to Utah, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.
Mason Tufaga is a relentless linebacker who pursues the ball across the football field. He has decent height and length for a college linebacker but needs to continue to add weight to his frame. He has good speed and burst showing the ability to pursue the football sideline to sideline. Tufaga arrives at the football with impact and delivers a blow to ball carriers and blockers alike. He is a physical football player by nature despite his currently slender build, as he get stronger expect him to be even more physical. He uses his long arms to keep blockers away from his body and disengage to make a play on the ball carrier. Tufaga is aggressive attacking the run but is a complete linebacker.
Tufaga is also comfortable in his drops and does a good job of using his length and quickness in coverage. He is able to close off passing windows and make plays on the football. Tufaga does overrun plays at time and is susceptible to cutback moves, but should improve with experience. He is a physical player who plays with tenacity but could stand to improve his technique. Overall, Tufaga has the size and athleticism to become a complete linebacker in college. Mason Tufaga will be a three down linebacker who plays with a relentless motor and develops into a power five starter in college.
