Mississippi RebelsRecruit Scouting Reports

Luke Altmyer: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape on Luke Atlmyer to give you a scouting report based on his film.

Luke Altmyer is an accurate passer who can pick a defense apart. He has adequate height and a slender frame but should be able to put on enough weight to play quarterback in college. Altmyer can really spin the football, throwing an accurate, catchable ball his receivers can make a play on. He displays good footwork and a sound release that allows him to repeat his delivery and be consistent with his accuracy. He throws the ball with zip underneath and is able to fit the ball into coverage. He throws on time giving his receivers ample opportunity to run after the catch and limiting the time the defense has to make a play on the ball.

Outside the pocket, Altmyer shows creativity and awareness, finding receivers while buying the time and space to make the throw. He has quick feet and good quickness that allows him to maneuver out of the pocket and make plays outside of it. Altmyer does not scramble much or have many designed runs on tape, but does appear to have the ability to pick up yardage on the ground when there is space available. He will need to get stronger and add arm strength as he moves forward in his career. Overall, Altmyer is an accurate passer who shows good footwork and awareness on the field. Luke Altmyer will be a good college quarterback who is best suited for a modern passing attack that spreads the defense out and allows him to pick apart the windows in the coverage.
