Leonard Taylor: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Leonard Taylor will be announcing his commitment on August 6th and is choosing between Florida and Miami. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.
Leonard Taylor is an athletic defensive tackle prospect that has excellent length and the frame to bulk up to the 285-295 pound range. He is an elite athlete for the position and moves more like an end than a tackle. Taylor is very explosive at the snap and shows off his athleticism as a defender and on special teams when blocking kicks. He usually plays with good pad level allowing him to win the leverage battle against offensive lineman. Taylor uses his hands to compliment his elite quickness and swipe off blockers when penetrating gaps. He has an impressive swim move although he will need to develop a greater arsenal of pass rush moves at the next level.
Taylor is a high energy player, who is excellent in pursuit and demonstrates elite closing speed to the ball carrier. In addition to his quickness, Taylor flashes the ability to convert speed to power in his bull rush to overpower blockers. In addition to being a disruptive up-field force, he is able to get his hands on plenty of balls to knock down balls and even make some athletic interceptions. Leonard Taylor will need to bulk up some but projects as an elite athletic defensive tackle that will develop into one of the most disruptive interior defenders in the country.
