LB Rankings: Junior Colson
As we review the LB rankings, players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Junior Colson, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:
- The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
- Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
- Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
- We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

Michigan linebacker, Junior Colson got a lot of playing time as a true freshman in 2021. He was athletic and flashed plenty in his first year, including a 12 tackle game vs Penn State. The future star tallied 61 tackles with .5 tackles for loss, 2 pass break-ups, and 3 QB Hurries during the season. Colson played beyond his years and will be a leader at linebacker for the Wolverines moving forward.
Colson is an excellent athlete at linebacker. He has good speed, that allows him to range from sideline to sideline. He is fast to the football, often closing in pursuit quicker than the ball carrier would expect him to. Colson’s athletic gifts are also an asset in coverage, where he is able to take away passing windows in the intermediate passing game. He has the athletic ability to match-up with a wide range of offensive players.
Colson has also shown physicality early in his career. At 6’2″ 235 lbs, he has filled out his frame well and shows the power needed to defend in the box. He is an aggressive tackler who will not shy away from making a big hit. Over the course of his freshman season, Colson showed an improved ability to disengage blocks and fight through traffic to find the football. With a physical playing style and good athleticism, he is an impact player on defense.
Junior Colson is an athletic linebacker who covers plenty of ground. He is excellent in pursuit and has the attitude and aggression to make plays in the run game. His strong play as a true freshman is a promising sign for the future. While Colson has just scratched the surface of his potential, he is on his way to becoming a star linebacker.
