Keon Sabb: Scouting Report
Size
Keon Sabb has good height for a safety. He has a thick frame that is already well built and will continue to get stronger as he fills out. He is muscular and already looks the part of college safety. Sabb has the size to play in the box and could grow into more of a hybrid S/LB role depending on how much weight he adds.
Athleticism
Sabb is not a burner, but has good speed for the position. He also has solid lateral quickness and is able to change directions effectively in coverage. Sabb has good burst and accelerates well when closing on plays. He has a good blend of athleticism and size that will help him to be a versatile player at the next level.
Coverage Skills
Sabb has experience playing multiple spots in the secondary and demonstrates the ability to cover from all of those positions. He is comfortable in man coverage and does a good job of patiently waiting for the route to develop before committing. Sabb is excellent when he plays over the top and can read and react to the play in front of him. He should excel in zones and covering tight ends and hybrid players on the inside.
Ball Skills
Sabb is able to maintain good coverage and reacts to the ball quickly to make plays against the passing game. His leaping ability helps him make a play on jump-balls against bigger receivers. Sabb is a strong player who is able to fight for positioning in traffic and make the play on the ball. He has solid hands at safety and will make his share of interceptions.
Run Support / Tackling
Sabb’s physical strength and ability to get downhill make him a natural in pursuit of the ball carrier. He takes good angles to the ball carrier and is a good tackler when he arrives. Sabb could get better shedding blocks and navigating traffic, but his athleticism helps him make the play anyway. He is a willing hitter whose presence will be felt at the second level.
Projection
Keon Sabb is a big safety who has good athleticism and will be a versatile weapon for the defense. He is able to hold his own in coverage and is a physical presence at the second level. Sabb has the physical attributes to play a lot of roles and he will develop into a starter for an upper echelon power five team.
