Julian Humphrey: Scouting Report
Size
Julian Humphrey has good height and the length coaches look for in a college cornerback. He has a lean muscular build and will be a physical cornerback for receivers to match-up with. Humphrey’s size is definitely an asset and will help him succeed on the perimeter in college.
Athleticism
Humphrey has excellent speed that translates well on the football field. He accelerates quickly and has the long speed to maintain coverage downfield. He has solid change of direction skills but could improve in this area some. Humphrey has an excellent athletic profile and has the physical tools to excel at the next level.
Hips/Technique
Humphrey’s speed and burst allow him to stick to receivers in coverage. He shows the ability to flip his hips and run with receivers in press coverage. Humphrey can also accelerate out of his backpedal quickly and close on plays in front of him. He needs to be more efficient with his footwork at times, but shows the aptitude to play multiple coverage schemes.
Ball Skills
Humphrey displays good hands and has the hand quickness to make plays on the ball. He is able to beat the receiver to the ball and breakup passes. Humphrey’s athleticism includes good leaping ability that helps him to win in jump-ball situations. He has the ability to make plays on the ball and should make his fair share of interceptions.
Physicality/Tackling
Humphrey has no problem being physical at the point of attack. He has the length and physicality to be disruptive and does not shy away from contact. Humphrey is a solid tackler and does not hesitate to close on the ball carrier and deliver a hit.
Projection
Julian Humphrey has an excellent combination of size and speed. He has the ball skills to make big plays and could be an impact player at the next level. Humphrey has the physical tools and potential to develop into a starter for an upper echelon power five team.
