Jakailin Johnson: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Jakailin Johnson committed to Ohio State, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.
Jakailin Johnson is a complete cornerback who could be an early contributor at the college level. He has good height and length at the position and will continue to add weight as he gets stronger and fills out his frame. Johnson has the long speed to cover faster receivers downfield and the hips to change directions quickly and get up to speed in a hurry. He adjusts well to the ball and is physical enough to fight through contact and get to the football. Johnson is a very sudden athlete who can start and stop quickly and change directions on the fly, giving him the physical skills to cover in almost any situation.
Against the run Johnson is an effective tackler and is willing to take on blockers to get to the ball carrier. As he adds weight and strength it will make him more of an asset on run defense. Johnson has excellent closing speed which helps him get to ball carriers quickly. The closing speed is also apparent when the football when is thrown and he is able to make up ground and get to the ball. Johnson is a polished prospect, but he does need to continue to refine his technique so he gives less ground on transitions and stays in phase throughout the play. Overall, Johnson has all of the tools to be a lock-down corner at the next level. Jakailin Johnson will be an excellent cornerback in college who should be a regular on all conference teams early in his career.
