Jaeden Gould: Scouting Report

CB Rank: —
Team: Nebraska
Class: 2022
Size

Jaeden Gould has good size for a cornerback prospect. He is already well built and has the length to add good weight in the future. Gould fits the mold of what college teams look for in an outside cornerback. He has the height, length and physicality to match-up with bigger receivers on the perimeter.

Athleticism

Gould has good long speed and has the acceleration to get up to speed quickly. He is solid when changing directions showing the ability to change directions in coverage. He has a long stride that allows him to make up ground when the ball is in the air to close on the play.

Hips/Technique

Gould shows a good understanding of defensive positioning and uses the sideline well to squeeze receivers into tight spaces. He has fluid hips that allow him to turn and run with receivers downfield. At his size it will be important for him to maintain that flexibility as he matures. Gould should cleanup his footwork some to be quicker out of his back pedal, but has the athleticism to make this adjustment.

Ball Skills

Gould does not have a lot of interceptions in his highlights, but he does show the ability to track the ball and break up the pass. He has good reach, leaping ability and body control, all of which allow him to make plays when the ball is in the air. Gould has a knack for finding the football even when his back is to the quarterback by playing through the receivers hands.

Physicality/Tackling

Gould is physical with receivers downfield and is able to hold his own when receivers are trying to muscle him. He does not have a lot of plays where he is asked to jam receivers, but his physicality and strength should translate well here. He has the burst and size to make close on the ball carrier, but will need to be consistent with his technique as a tackler.

Projection

Jaeden Gould has a good mix of size and athleticism for the cornerback position. He has a lot of the tools needed to become a good college cornerback and just needs to add polish to his game. His physical tools and continued development will help him become a starter for an upper echelon power five team.
