Isaiah Johnson: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Isaiah Johnson has committed to Arizona State. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Isaiah Johnson is a good corner back prospect with a close to ideal size/speed ratio. He has a good frame with the height and physicality to compete with bigger receivers. Johnson has high end athleticism, he has speed and burst that allows him to close on plays quickly. He can play man to man or in a zone and eat up space in coverage. Johnson does a good job of tracking the ball in the air and high pointing it in contested situations. He has the strength and attitude to compete with bigger receivers and not be easily shielded away from the ball.

Johnson’s physicality is not only evident in the passing game, but also in run support. He does a good job of setting the edge and fighting off blocks to make plays on the ball carrier. Johnson is a good tackler and will be an asset against the run. He is a well rounded prospect who can do everything a college cornerback needs to. His technique will need to be refined at the next level and he will need to maintain his flexibility as he adds weight. Overall, Johnson has the physical tools college teams are looking for in an outside cornerback. Isaiah Johnson is a physically impressive cornerback who may be a bit raw but has the tools to be a starter at the power five level.
