High School Game Review: Trinity Christian vs Knoxville Catholic

High school football kicked off this weekend and with several games being televised we were able to get a look at some prospects. Here are our thoughts on the prospects we saw in the Trinity Christian vs Knoxville Catholic game on Saturday.

Top Prospect

Shedeur Sanders of Trinity Christian is a 2021 quarterback prospect who is committed to FAU. Sanders has the height and frame you look for in a college quarterback. He has cleaned up his release from his junior film and the improvement is noticeable on the field. He showed good velocity and accuracy on short to intermediate throws throughout the game. He has decent mobility at the position and made a few good throws while on the move. Sanders has above average arm strength on his deep balls, throwing the deep ball with good touch and accuracy.

Sanders was in control throughout the game. He spread the ball around to his weapons and kept his offense on schedule all game. Even when the game was close Sanders appeared to be in complete control. He made good decisions consistently, and only had one “bad” decision on a throw all game, that one came when the game was well in hand. Sanders has improved as a prospect from his junior year and was a lot of fun to watch Saturday.

Committed 2021 Prospects

Jordyn Williams is an Indiana commit in the 2021 class who plays wide receiver for Trinity Christian. He has good height and length with a frame to get stronger. Williams ran sharp routes and was able to get open underneath consistently throughout the game. He did have a drop early but bounced back and had a big game. Williams is a good “possession” receiver who understands the coverage and finds open spaces to settle into. He made several big plays in the game including a touchdown on a go route where he was well covered but fought off the defender to make the catch. Williams showed enough speed but is not a burner, he did show good quickness and some make you miss ability to pick up yards after the catch. He made his impact throughout the game and was a problem for the Knoxville Catholic secondary all night.

Robert Williams is a 2021 wide receiver prospect who is committed to Louisiana. He is a bit on the thin side right now but has decent height and should add enough weight to be effective in college. Williams showed good long speed, and a long stride that seemed to eat up turf once he got into the open field. He had a long catch when Trinity Christian was pinned deep on their own end, Williams was able to track the ball and make the catch for a long gain in the first quarter. He did a good job of catching the football cleanly, and used his speed to pick up good yardage after the catch. Williams also had a kickoff return for touchdown that was called back in this game. He is a good compliment to Jordyn Williams and made several big plays on Saturday.

Cam’Ron Silmon is a safety/outside linebacker for Trinity Christian and is committed to FAU. Silmon had his moments as a blitzer off the edge where he was able to use his acceleration to get to the quarterback and record a sack. He has some length and should be able to get bigger in college but speed will be Silmon’s calling card. He is a fluid athlete in space and showed that late in the game making a good one on one tackle in space against Knoxville Catholic QB Kaden Martin who is a shifty quarterback in space.

2021 Prospects Who Is Not Committed

Marvin Martin is a 2021 safety recruit for Trinity Catholic who reports offers from Arkansas State, Southern Miss and Troy among others. He has a good build for a safety but played closer to the line of scrimmage this game to help contain Knoxville Catholic QB Kaden Martin. Marvin Martin was very effective as a blitzer off the edge where he recorded three TFL including a sack. He was effective pressuring the quarterback, but also did well in coverage especially taking away shorts passes to the backs or tight end in the flats. He showed good speed and burst on a sack in the third quarter when he blitzed off the backside and chased down Kaden Martin who was rolling the other way. He was solid in coverage, though he did get beat downfield on a double move but the ball was overthrown. Martin has a lot of the tools you look for in a college safety and is a prospect to keep an eye on.

2022 Prospect To Watch

Kaden Martin is a 2022 quarterback prospect for Knoxville Catholic who reports offers from Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Miami, Tennessee and West Virginia among others. Martin is a bit short for a quarterback but has a thick build and good overall athleticism at the position. Martin was under pressure from the Trinity Catholic defensive line and blitzers most of the game and had little time to set his feet. A few times he was able to make good throws on the run including a long touchdown that tied the game in the second quarter. When he was able to get his feet under him, Martin showed above average arm strength and good touch on his deep balls. The left handed passer is a good athlete but was constantly swarmed by defenders in this game, he did lose a fumble in a tough spot in the second quarter while the game was still tied. Martin may not have ideal size, but he has good athleticism and some tools to grow as a player before he hits the college gridiron.

Sophomore Who Showed Promise

Trevor Duncan is a 2023 prospect who played along the defensive line for Knoxville Catholic on Saturday. He is a young player but has a good frame to add weight and get bigger before college. Duncan is still raw as a football player but had his moments in this game. He was able to split a double team and come up with a sack on Sanders in the first quarter. On several running plays in the first half he was able to disengage his blocker and close the hole to make a tackle at or near the line of scrimmage. Duncan picked up a roughing the passer penalty when he arrived at the quarterback a step late on a pressure later in the game. Overall, he had a good game for Knoxville Catholic upfront. Duncan is raw and has a long way to go, he will need to get stronger and more explosive but he showed he has some potential and can make plays as a sophomore.
