Ga’Quincy McKinstry: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Ga’Quincy McKinstry is uncommitted but is choosing between Alabama, Auburn and LSU. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.
Ga’Quincy Mckinstry is an instinctual football player on both sides of the ball. He has excellent ball skills which he displays on offense and defense. McKinstry does a great job of tracking the ball, positioning himself and timing his leap. He has excellent instincts and a good feel for the game, he anticipates the play well to get himself in position to make the play. McKinstry has the height and length coaches are looking for in a modern cornerback. This size combined with his good leaping ability allows him to excel in jump ball situations.
Athletically, McKinstry has great change of directions skills which allow him to cover shiftier receivers down field. He couples this with excellent short area burst that helps him to close on the ball quickly. He has enough long speed now but does have room to improve as he gets stronger. Like most two way athletes McKinstry is still somewhat raw as a corner and will need to continue to hone his technique. Overall, McKinstry is a playmaker with a high ceiling who should continue to get better with experience. Ga’Quincy McKinstry will be an excellent cornerback in college who should star at the power five level.
