Eli Stowers: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape on Eli Stowers to give you a scouting report based on his film.

Eli Stowers is a tall and athletic dual threat quarterback with a lot of raw ability. Stowers has good height and is a fairly well built quarterback who will continue to add weight to his frame. He has prototypical size for the position and is able to scan the field with ease from the pocket. Stowers has good raw arm strength and can deliver the ball with velocity. He shows good footwork and release mechanics at times but with consistency will be able to tap into that arm potential. His accuracy is good when his mechanics are sound, but he does tend to sail the ball at times. Stowers is patient in the pocket and goes through his progressions to find the open receiver. He can buy time outside the pocket and shows the ability to make tough throws when off balance.

Stowers has great long speed, making him a threat to score on the ground at any time. He has a long stride and chews up ground when on the move. He identifies seams in the defense well and is a threat to score once he hits the opening. Stowers is a tough runner who can run through arm tackles and pick up yards after contact. He is not as elusive as some dual threat quarterbacks and could improve in this area, but with his speed and burst he is a big play threat on every play. Overall, Stowers has the ability to dominate the game through the air or on the ground. Eli Stowers is a developing prospect who has a very high ceiling, he is likely to develop into an upper power five starter in college.
