DT Rankings: Jalen Carter
As we review the DT rankings, players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Jalen Carter, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:
- The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
- Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
- Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
- We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

Georgia defensive tackle, Jalen Carter made an impact as a true freshman in 2020. He built on that first season with an even better sophomore campaign, during which he was a key part of a historically good defense. Carter was a disruptive force on the defensive line and made plenty of plays despite playing along side plenty of high draft picks. Over the course of the 2021 season he made 37 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks and had 1 pass breakup. Carter has continued to develop as a player and will now lead the Georgia front in 2022.
Carter is a well built 6’3″ 310 lbs and plays with the power you would expect from a player that size. He is difficult to move out of running lanes and can push blockers into the backfield to create congestion. Even more impressive is the ability he has to use his hands effectively. Carter displays an array of pass rush moves and advanced technique fighting off blockers to make the play. Carter can be a space eater, but his ability to use his hands to disengage blockers makes him so much more.
Carter’s power and strength help him be disruptive, but that combined with his quickness makes him almost unstoppable. He fires off the ball and is able to disengage blocks and close on the ball carrier before they have had an opportunity to escape the backfield. Carter closes in the blink of an eye, succeeding in pursuit and delivering big hits in the backfield. Carter is an impressive physical specimen who has a strong build and excellent athleticism to go with it.
Jalen Carter played a key role for the Georgia defense the last two years and will now be asked to lead. He has an impressive physique that is ideal for an interior defensive lineman. He combines that with advanced technique and excellent athleticism to be an impact defender. Carter has earned his spot among the best defensive linemen in college football.
