Drew Allar: Scouting Report
Size
Drew Allar has prototypical size for a quarterback prospect. He is a tall prospect who is already filling out and should comfortably add enough strength to his frame. Allar will be a tough quarterback for defenders to wrestle down in college. He has the size to comfortably see and make plays from the pocket.
Release/Mechanics
Allar has a solid release that is quick and compact, but could improve his release point and the consistency of his mechanics going forward. His footwork is good in the pocket, but he has a tendency to not reset as he evades pressure. Allar’s arm talent allows him to succeed even when he is off balance in these situations.
Arm
Allar has good arm strength and can throw the football with pace to all levels of the field. He is getting better at putting touch on throws when needed and dropping them in to his receivers. Allar is an accurate passer when his mechanics are clean. As he improves his consistency in this area his accuracy will become more consistent as well.
Mobility
Allar is not a big threat in the running game, but he has decent foot quickness for his size. He has the ability to make pass rushers miss and can avoid a sack and buy time for a receiver to come open. Allar is a tough runner who is not afraid to take contact and can pick up a first down when he escapes the pass rush.
Intangibles
Allar is still relatively raw as a quarterback, but shows the traits needed to succeed at the position. He scans the field quickly and can find his second or third option from the pocket. Allar has a good feel for the game and can change arm angles and throw off various platforms effectively. He is tough to contain because of his instincts and knack for finding a play when it appears there is none available.
Projection
Drew Allar is a physically gifted quarterback who has a lot of the tools needed to succeed at the next level. While he is still learning the position, he is already showing the ability to make the necessary improvements. Allar’s physical tools and ability to improve his game will help him become a good quarterback who can be a starter for an upper echelon power five team.
