DE Rankings: Collin Oliver
Last Updated: 08/15/2022
As we review the DE rankings, players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Collin Oliver, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:
- The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
- Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
- Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
- We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

Oklahoma State defensive end, Collin Oliver made a major impact as a true freshman for the Cowboys. He was expected to see playing time early, but his strong play earned him more time than would normally be expected for a true freshman. Oliver excelled and made the most of his opportunities, totaling 29 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks and 5 QB hurries and a fumble forced last season. Oliver has proven he is a disruptive player off the edge, who will continue to play a key role for the Oklahoma State defense moving forward.
Oliver has great speed and burst off the edge. He may only measure 6’2″ 225 lbs, but his ability to get off the ball quickly gives him an advantage on most plays. He is able to get past blockers with his burst and has the flexibility and bend to turn the corner and close on the quarterback. Oliver’s speed and acceleration also set-up his counter moves inside. Offensive linemen have a hard timing playing balanced against Oliver because he is so quick off the ball, he takes advantage of that on bull rushes and counter moves inside when the blocker has leaned too far outside too soon.
Oliver gets the most out of his athleticism thanks to his great motor. He knows he is has the athleticism to make up ground in pursuit, so he does not quit on plays, but instead continues to fight through blocks and make plays when he didn’t win right away. Oliver continues to fight through blocks in pursuit and is able to help his teammates by closing on a play from the backside and eliminating the ball carriers ability to cut back or reverse his field. He cleans up plays when the quarterback looks to break contain and can make running lanes disappear with his effort and explosiveness.
Collin Oliver is still a young defensive end, but has already proven he can be an impact player for a quality defense. He plays fast and will put pressure on opposing offenses every play, making him a threat to make a big play at any time. Oliver will only get better as he fills out and adds different pass rush moves to his game. He has a bright future and is on the way to becoming one of the best defensive ends in college football.
