Caleb Burton: Scouting Report
Size
Caleb Burton has average height for a wide receiver. He is still a slender prospect but has the length and frame to fill out. He has added muscle and should continue to do so as he matures physically. Burton is not a big receiver, but has the size needed to be an outside receiver in college.
Athleticism
Burton has good long speed and can get behind the defense but is not a burner. He has excellent short area quickness, accelerating and changing directions efficiently to pull away from defenders. Burton is a fluid athlete who has little wasted motion in his game.
Route Running
Burton excels as a route runner, he sets defenders up and makes quick efficient breaks to create separation. His burst, agility and balance allow him to get in and out of his breaks with good pace. He understands how to get defenders off balance and use that against them to get open. Burton creates excellent space and creates easier throws for his quarterback.
Ball Skills
Burton is excellent with the ball in the air. He shows an innate ability to track the ball position himself for the catch. He has good leaping ability and high points the ball in jump ball situations to make the catch. Burton has great body control and is able to adjust to the ball and sideline effectively. He catches the ball with his hands efficiently and is able to maintain speed while securing the catch.
Run After Catch
Burton has the short area quickness that makes him dangerous after the catch. He sets defenders up and makes them miss with his agility and burst. Burton has good lateral quickness and makes defenders miss in space regularly. His run after catch ability is accentuated by the separation he gets on his routes, giving him plenty of space to operate.
Projection
Caleb Burton is an excellent receiver prospect who gets open easily and can make tough catches look easy. He is an efficient player who does a good job of keeping defenders off balance. Burton has all of the tools to become one of the best receivers in college football.
