Bryce Anderson: Scouting Report
Size
Bryce Anderson has average height and a solid build to play safety in college. He is a lean and muscular athlete who has room to continue to add some weight to his frame. Anderson could get big enough to be a safety in the box, but is already big enough to be a deep safety.
Athleticism
Anderson is a wonderful athlete who has elite speed for the position. He also shows great short area quickness and the fluidity to change directions on a dime. Anderson has straight line speed and the lateral quickness to react to quicker offensive player. Athleticism is a big strength for Anderson.
Coverage Skills
Anderson plays quarterback for his high school team so he has received less reps at safety. He does show a good feel for the position when he plays defense. He has good speed and covers plenty of ground and is able to get in position to capitalize on missed throws and make the tackle. Anderson has work to do on the nuances of the position and his technique in coverage but he has the tools to develop and be an asset in defensive backfield.
Ball Skills
Again, there isn’t a lot of film of Anderson in the secondary, but he does show good hands and a feel for finding the football. He has excellent balance and leaping ability that should translate well in contested situations and help him adjust to safety quickly. Anderson will need to learn to adjust to the ball effectively against quality receivers, but his athleticism and limited experience suggest he will be a quick study in this area as well.
Run Support / Tackling
The limited film of Anderson playing defense shows a willing tackler who is not afraid to deliver a hit. His speed and lateral quickness make him effective adjusting to the play and closing on the ball carrier. Anderson will need to work on his form and technique to be a consistent tackler at the college level, but again the raw tools are present.
Projection
Bryce Anderson is an explosive athlete who has all of the tools to star in the secondary. He needs more experience on the defensive side of the ball but has a high ceiling. Anderson has all of the physical ability to develop in an excellent safety who is an all conference type performer at the next level.
