Minnesota GophersRecruit Scouting Reports

Athan Kaliakmanis: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Early last year, Athan Kaliakmanis committed to Minnesota, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a scouting report based on his film.

Athan Kaliakmanis is an athletic quarterback who has a lot of tools to work with. He has excellent height but needs to add a lot of weight to his frame. He does have a good frame to add the weight he needs as he gets stronger. Kaliakmanis is a good athlete who can pick up yardage on the ground in bunches. He is not the smoothest runner but has some speed and is elusive in the open field. He can escape the pass rush and is an effective thrower when on the move. He has the ability to make throws from awkward angles when he needs to and can turn a lost play into a gain because of this.

Inside the pocket, Kaliakmanis has good arm strength and above average accuracy. He needs to do a better job with his lower half and be consistent with his footwork, improved footwork will help him get the most out of his arm and increase his accuracy. He will need to get better at anticipating routes and throwing receivers open but this is common for young quarterbacks. He also has a tendency to be careless with the football when moving around, he needs to keep both hands on the ball in college. Overall, there is a lot of physical tools to work with and he is on his way to tapping into his potential. Athan Kaliakmanis is a prospect with work to do but a high upside, he is likely to be a power five starter at the collegiate level, but with coaching and consistency could become an all conference type player.
