Week Three Stars, 2022
Every week is a new opportunity for college football players to shine. Here’s a look at a few of the stars from week three:
WR – Johnny Wilson – Florida State
Florida State rallied to beat Louisville 35 -31 Friday night. The Seminoles were in some trouble, trailing by seven early in the fourth quarter and without Jordan Travis, who had been lost to an injury in the first half. Florida State needed a star to emerge, enter Johnny Wilson. The 6’7″ receiver was the spark his team needed, beating his man deep one on one for a 64 yard catch, then following that play up with a game tying touchdown catch. Wilson scored again the next drive, proving to be unstoppable in the fourth quarter. He made 7 catches for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns in the game, while also drawing two key pass interference penalties in the fourth quarter. Wilson provided a breakout performance when his team needed it, the Seminoles hope it’s a sign of things to come the rest of the season.
RB – Mohamed Ibrahim – Minnesota
Mohamed Ibrahim has picked up where he left off before his injury in last season’s opener. With two 100-yard games under his belt this year, Minnesota‘s star running back put up his first 200-yard game of the season in a 49 – 7 win over Colorado. Ibrahim was dominant from the first play of the game, bullying defenders and running through would be tacklers for big gains. He dominated the entire first half, scoring all three of his touchdowns in the half and only playing one series in the second half. Ibrahim racked up 202 yards on 23 carries and those three touchdowns. As fans have come to expect, the Gophers can count on Ibrahim to lead the way for the offense with his refuse to be denied running style.

S – Jay Ward – LSU
LSU shut down the Mississippi State offense in a 31 – 16 win Saturday. Playing a Mike Leach offense, means a busy day for defensive backs, but Jay Ward was up to the challenge. He made key stops throughout the game, including a third and 1 stop for no gain in the first quarter, a fourth down pass break-up in the third quarter and an interception ending a Mississippi State drive into LSU territory in the fourth quarter. In addition to those key plays, Ward was a sure tackler downfield and in the running game, helping bottle up the running backs and making plays in the backfield. Ward filled the stat sheet on Saturday, recording 11 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 1 interception and 1 pass break-up. The senior safety was an integral part of the Tiger’s SEC opening win.

CB – Aydan White – NC State
NC State gutted out a 27 – 14 win over Texas Tech, thanks in no small part to the play of sophomore cornerback, Aydan White. White made several big plays for a defense that controlled the game and created opportunities for the offense. White took it one step further, returning a second quarter interception 84 yards for a touchdown, to put some points on the board himself. White put together an excellent performance, finishing the game with 5 tackles, 1 sack, 2 interceptions and that one touchdown. He was a big reason why NC State was able to remain undefeated this Saturday.
