Tyler Buchner: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Last year, Tyler Buchner committed to Notre Dame, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.
Tyler Buchner is true dual threat quarterback who is an excellent runner and a good passer. Buchner has above average size at the quarterback position with a good build. He has good speed in the open field and the burst to escape defenders. Buchner is a crafty runner who has an uncanny ability to make defenders miss. He is comfortable taking on tacklers and is not afraid to cut back into traffic to get extra yards. Buchner has good arm talent and throws an accurate ball. He does an excellent job with touch passes that he drops in to his receivers with ease.
Buchner has enough arm strength to stretch the field and to find the holes in the zone. He can throw from the pocket and while on the move outside the pocket. Buchner will throw from different arm slots to find the right angle, he is a creative player who finds a way to make the throw. He has a quick release but his mechanics could still use some work, especially his footwork. Buchner sometimes leaves the pocket too soon and will need to learn to go through his progressions in college. Overall, Buchner puts stress on the defense with his arm and his legs making him a tough player to contain. Tyler Buchner is an explosive player who can beat the defense in a variety of ways, he will be an excellent college player who can be one of the best in his conference.
