Risers In The CFB Saturdays College Football WR Rankings: December 3, 2020

As the season winds down and with a larger sample size to see the best players, we have updated the College Football WR rankings. A few notes before we discuss the rankings themselves.

• The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
• Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
• Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
• We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

Here is a look at a few of the wide receivers who have made big moves up in the rankings.

Garrett Wilson – Ohio State

Garrett Wilson flashed his impressive skills as a true freshman and was in the top 15 on this list, but has taken his game to another level in 2020. The sophomore from Texas, runs crisp routes, setting up defenders and getting in and out of his breaks efficiently. He has excellent hands and is able to pluck the ball out of the air effortlessly. In contested catch situations, Wilson has the body control, leaping ability and concentration to do the impossible and come down with the football. He makes defenders miss after the catch and as a runner on designed runs and pop passes. Wilson has all of the tools of an elite receiver and is now a featured weapon the Buckeyes’ offense.

Last year, Wilson saw his role increase as the season progressed but he was in a crowded receiver room and saw a limited number of targets. In 2020, Wilson is one of the Buckeyes’ two go-to receivers and has made the extra opportunities count. Through four games he has made 31 catches for 513 yards and 4 touchdowns, while also running the ball twice for 67 yards. Wilson has gone over 100 yards receiving in every game this season and has made at least six catches in every game. Buckeye fans have a lot to be excited about with Wilson catching passes in Columbus for at least another season.

Elijah Moore – Mississippi

Mississippi’s offense has been one of the most explosive in the SEC. Moore is the big play threat in the Rebels passing attack. Moore is not the biggest receiver but he packs a lot of ability into his frame. Moore excels out of the slot, getting easy separation in the middle of the field and playing bigger than his size in jump ball situations. Moore has excellent run after the catch ability and is able to make something out of nothing and pick up extra yards. His speed and explosiveness make him a threat to score every time he gets the ball. Moore has thrived in Lane Kiffin’s offense and is having a huge season for the Rebels.

Mississippi’s offense has made big plays the norm this season. Moore is the leading threat on the offense and has been dynamic in almost all of the Rebels eight games this season. He has caught 86 passes for 1193 yards and 8 touchdowns, adding in 64 rushing yards on 14 carries as well. Moore has gone over 200 yards three times this season and only has one bad game on his ledger against Auburn. The junior has more catches than any four of his teammates combined this season and is the clear go to weapon in the passing game for Mississippi. Moore’s explosive ability has made him a headache for SEC defenses in 2020.

Ty Fryfogle – Indiana

Ty Fryfogle is one of the most improved players in the country in 2020. After a solid junior season in 2019, he continued to work, added 10 pounds and came back bigger and stronger. Fryfogle has good height, length and leaping ability, which help him to make big plays downfield. The added strength has helped him fight off defenders and more consistently win contested balls. Fryfogle can be a security blanket for his quarterback in the middle of the field or a big play threat downfield. He has become a complete receiver who is nearly impossible to cover one on one.

Indiana has had a remarkable season and Fryfogle has been a big part of the Hoosiers’ success. He has been a big play threat in the passing game, at times allowing his quarterback to throw jump balls up for grabs, knowing that Fryfogle will come down with them. In six games this season, he has 33 catches for 652 yards and 7 touchdowns. The big play receiver has had two 200 yards games this season and has become the number one option in the Indiana passing game. The Big Ten almost cancelled the season, that would have been a shame for players like Fryfogle who have elevated their stock significantly in 2020.

Dax Milne – BYU

BYU has put together a magical season and Dax Milne has been a big part of the team’s success. He has been Zach Wilson’s favorite target this season and is a reliable target for the Cougars. Milne is a sudden route runner, who creates separation with his quickness. He has a good situational awareness and does a good job of finding space when the play breaks down to give Wilson a target when on the run. Milne has reliable hands, catching the ball consistently. He has made a major leap from 2019 to 2020 and is a big part of BYU’s offensive accolades.

Milne only had three catches for 35 yards in the season opener against Navy, but he has gone over 65 yards in every game since then. Through 9 games this season, he has made 49 catches for 906 yards and 6 touchdowns. He has also been used as a runner, picking up 60 yards on 10 carries this season. Milne’s steady play has helped BYU to open up big leads and cruise to victory in most of their games. BYU has a chance to complete the undefeated season, they likely wouldn’t be in that position without Milne at receiver.
