Quinn Ewers: Scouting Report
Size
Quinn Ewers has good height for a college quarterback. He is still filling out his frame, but has the room to add good weight as he matures. Ewers will be strong enough to handle the toll of the college game. He has the size needed to be effective scanning the defense and making throws from the pocket at the next level.
Release/Mechanics
Ewers has an effortless release, that is quick and clean. He does have a little bit of a windup at times but it’s minimal and does not negatively impact his accuracy or ability to get the ball out quickly. His footwork is very good in the pocket and he does a good job of maintaining good mechanics when on the move.
Arm
Ewers has an elite arm. The ball jumps out of his hand with velocity and spin. There’s almost no part of a football field that he cannot reach. He has the ability to hit receivers deep down field and he can fit the football in just about any window underneath. His accuracy is equally impressive, Ewers throws on time and consistently places the ball in the best spot for his receiver to make a play. The accuracy and arm strength are also impressive when Ewers throws on the move or from different arm angles.
Mobility
Ewers has excellent pocket mobility and evades pressure like a crafty veteran. He is not an explosive running threat, but he has enough quickness to make a defender miss and pick up positive yardage. Ewers does a good job on zone read plays, where he may not be a home run threat but still picks up decent yardage. Ewers is particularly dangerous because he has a good feel for when to run and when to reset and throw.
Intangibles
Ewers has the intelligence and instincts to be a great quarterback. He throws the ball with good anticipation and does a good job of going through his progressions. Ewers is a crafty playmaker that does not quit on a play. He has the ability to elevate the play of those around him. His competitiveness and leadership make him a natural winner.
Projection
Quinn Ewers has a rare skill set that includes the arm talent, feet and instincts to be a great quarterback. He is a star in the making who has everything you could ask for in a quarterback recruit and should develop into one of the best players in college football.
