QB Rankings: Bryce Young
Updated: 01/18/2022
With the season underway players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Bryce Young, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:
- The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
- Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
- Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
- We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

Alabama quarterback, Bryce Young has quickly proven he is one of the best quarterbacks in college football. He led Alabama to an SEC Championship and an appearance in the National Championship Game in his first season as a starter. In 15 games, Young completed 67 percent of his passes and averaged 8.9 yards per attempt with a 47 to 7 touchdown to interception ratio. Young was just a second year player in 2021, but proved he is a star at the position and more than capable of winning it all.
Young has displayed excellent pocket awareness, especially for such a young player. He has a great feel for how the pocket is changing around him and has the quickness and nimble feet to find space. It’s uncanny how good Young is at navigating the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield. He is not only able to evade the rush effectively, he also continues to search the defense for an opening to throw into. It’s a helpless feeling for defenses who think they have Young dead to rights, only to come up empty and watch him make another big throw.
He is also a very accurate passer. Young shows excellent ball placement, whether he has his feet set or not and from different arm angles. He makes quick decisions and throws the ball on time and to the right spot, giving his receivers a good chance to run after the catch. Young is able to throw the ball with some pace, but is excellent dropping the ball in the bucket with touch. He has an advanced feel for the offense, gets rid of the ball on time and gives his receiver a great chance to run after the catch.
Young is definitely on the small side for a quarterback, but he has the quickness and intelligence to work from the pocket. He is an excellent athlete who is scary for defenders to handle one on one in space. Young has good arm strength and excellent accuracy that allows him to make some spectacular throws, but is also very consistent and makes a good throw over and over again to keep the offense moving. He is already so advanced and with a full season under his belt will be nearly unstoppable in 2022.
