Kaleb Brown: Scouting Report
Size
Kaleb Brown has slightly below average height at the receiver position. He is not particularly thick but is a compactly built prospect who packs a punch. He has some length and uses it well at receiver. Brown may not be a big receiver, but he is big enough to play outside if needed and has more than enough size and strength to thrive in the slot.
Athleticism
Brown has good long speed and is a threat to turn a small catch into a big gain, but he is not a pure speedster either. His strength is his fast twitch ability and suddenness in short areas. Brown can change directions in an instant and accelerates exceptionally. He is a big time athlete who is tough to contain, even in close quarters.
Route Running
Brown played a lot of running back in his high school game film, but does play receiver on the 7 v 7 circuit. While his game experience is limited at receiver he does show an understanding of how to set up defenders and create separation. Brown’s burst and quickness make him tough to cover one on one and he is able to create space in and out of his cuts. He will need to fine tune his route running in game situations, but the tools are there for him to succeed.
Ball Skills
Brown shows off his ball skills on the7 v 7 circuit as well. He tracks the ball effectively and has excellent body control to adjust to the throw and make tough catches. Brown has good hands and is able to make tough contested catches routinely. He displays good timing on his jumps and has the leaping ability to make plays over the top of defenders. There is no doubt that Brown has the ability to make highlight reel catches and will help his quarterback when the throw is not perfect.
Run After Catch
Brown has the athleticism to make defenders miss and run away from tacklers once he has the ball. He combines his burst with surprising power and can run through arm tackles in the second level. Brown has played a lot of running back in high school and is very comfortable with the ball in his hands. He will be an asset after the catch at the next level.
Projection
Kaleb Brown is an promising receiver prospect who has excellent athleticism and a lot of potential at the position. He has limited experience at receiver in high school but has displayed the tools to excel at the position. Brown has the explosiveness and overall skill set to develop into an all conference performer at the collegiate level.
