Dreyden Norwood: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, Dreyden Norwood committed to Texas A&M, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Dreyden Norwood is a dynamic high school quarterback who will make the switch to defensive back in college. His best assets are his short area explosiveness and lateral agility. Norwood accelerates and decelerates quickly which will be a big asset at defensive back when covering receivers. He changes directions efficiently allowing him to shadow receivers downfield. Norwood has good long speed allowing him to turn and run with receivers or to stick with them across the field. He has above average height for the position and an athletic frame that projects to add strength as he matures. He is physically capable of playing in press man coverage or to fight through blocks in run support.

Norwood primarily plays quarterback so he will need to learn the technique and nuances of the cornerback position. His footwork, timing and ball skills will all get better with repetition as he learns the position. He has the athletic skills to play in the defensive backfield but will need to gain experience at the position before he is a finished product. Dreyden Norwood is a high level athlete who will become a quality cornerback with coaching, he may not make an immediate impact but will be a power five starter down the road.
