Dematrius Davis: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape on Dematrius Davis to give you a scouting report based on his film.

Dematrius Davis is a dual threat quarterback who makes big plays with regularity. Davis is an excellent runner who has the acceleration and start and stop ability to escape tacklers in tight spaces. He has excellent quickness and displays an array of elusive moves to make defenders miss. He has decent speed but is more quick and explosive than he is fast. Davis does not have ideal height for a quarterback, but has a strong build and is well put together, he is strong enough to run through arm tackles. While Davis is an exceptional scrambler he is not a one dimensional threat.

Davis has above average arm strength and good accuracy as well. Davis does a good job of throwing on the run and has the ability to reset and make quality throws outside the pocket. He keeps his eyes downfield and is able to find receivers who come open late. While he is a capable passer, he needs to be consistent with his mechanics and release to maximize his arm strength. Davis also needs to be creative to find passing lanes as he is not as tall as most quarterbacks. Overall, Davis is a very capable passer and an exceptional runner at the quarterback position. Dematrius Davis will give defenses headaches with his dual threat ability and be an impact starter at the power five level.
