Braden Davis: Scouting Report
Size
Braden Davis is a tall prospect who has the frame to get much bigger as he adds good weight. He has added strength already, but will continue to fill out as he matures. Davis projects to have excellent size and will be a physically imposing quarterback at the college level.
Release/Mechanics
Davis is a good athlete with quick feet and good balance. His footwork in and around the pocket is still a work in progress and he unnecessarily gets himself off balance at times. Davis has a longer release and needs to improve his throwing motion to become a consistent passer at the next level. If his mechanics improve, Davis will be able to tap into his potential.
Arm
Davis has good arm strength, often throwing the ball with velocity when off balance or on the move. He shows the ability to stretch the field vertically and to throw the ball accurately, but needs to be more consistent. Davis does a good job of throwing with touch and making sure his receiver can make the catch, rather than trying to show off his arm on every throw.
Mobility
Davis is a good athlete who has some speed and escape-ability. He can accelerate well and has the burst to pull away from pass rushers that are closing in. Davis is tough to tackle in the open field with his combination of size, speed and fluidity. He is a good runner who can beat defenses with his running ability.
Intangibles
Davis is still a raw prospect and missed all but three games during his junior season. He is calm under pressure and shows no panic when on the move, keeping his eyes downfield to make plays. Davis shows the willingness to sit in the pocket and go through his progressions, when possible. He is just scratching the surface of his potential and has a very high ceiling.
Projection
Braden Davis is a tantalizing prospect because he has excellent tools that can be molded into a great quarterback. He has the natural arm strength, size and athletic ability to be a weapon in any offensive scheme. Davis has the potential to develop into a good college quarterback who can start for an upper echelon power five team.
